Carrie and Mick met online.
He winked at her profile and sent her a message.
For some reason she liked this profile and winked back to this fella who was everything she was not.
She was a chronic insomniac, raising 3 children and teaching singing at the time.
He was an electrician who took on-call jobs at all hours meaning he was online at odd hours of the day and night.
They would have conversations at some very strange hours.
One of the more memorable and embarrassing conversations was Mick telling Carrie about his bike. He would describe all the rides he would go on. She was very impressed. He told her one day that he was going on a small riding holiday. He was going to ride his bike down to Phillip Island, spend a few days there to watch the races, then ride home again.
In Carrie's mind, she was thinking, "Wow, very athletic of him to ride all that way!"
Imagine her surprise when in less than a week, Mick pops back online!
She expressed her shock and surprise about his sudden return asking, "I thought you were going to Phillip Island and riding down there? Isn't that all the way down past Melbourne?"
Mick responded with, "Yes. How long do you think it takes to get there?"
Carrie starts thinking and is typing away, "You said you rode down, it should have taken a few days to ride down there. . ."
Then it clicked in her head!
She suddenly realised after about 3-4 months of talking to him, she types to him. "You don't ride a push-bike do you? You ride a motorcycle."
Mick's response several laughing emojis.
Carrie had never ever been on a motorcycle before and it hadn't even entered her mind that this is what he was talking about.
Their conversations continued, their friendship continued to grow and they started to talk about one day meeting up for a coffee in the flesh.
Then one day, out of the blue, after 9 months of conversations, something amazing happened to Carrie - she was headhunted for a position with a small credit union. Literally, the first person she told was Mick - he was there online and in her excitement, she asked if he was free to meet for a coffee that afternoon - that was Thursday 17th April 2008. The rest is history.
Since then, they have weathered some incredible lows and the most amazing highs together. They have supported three amazing young adults through the latter half of their teens and into their adult years, supported each other through dark days, celebrated each others wins and grown together.
